Florida is a prime destination as evacuees seek clean water, electricity and shelter, all of which is still in short supply on the island.
Some will choose to make a permanent life in Florida or the mainland, while others want this to be a temporary move.
But is the Sunshine State ready for such an influx of people, and how are Floridians and government officials preparing?
Spectrum News 13 is hosting a live, one-hour special at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Acacia Banquet Hall, 1865 Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, called Hurricane Maria: Mainland Impact.
Spectrum News 13 will look at the issue from five angles: housing, jobs, education, politics and health care. The town hall is a collection of memorable stories and live interviews.
The format will be a town hall with a live studio audience and hosted by Spectrum News 13 anchors Ybeth Bruzual and Veronica Cintron.
