Legendary Disney artist Al Konetzni passed away Monday at the age of 100.

Konetzni was born May 19, 1915, in New York City, and he most recently called Bradenton home. He was the artist who designed and developed a number of memorable Disney toys and merchandise.

Konetzni started working for Walt Disney Productions in 1953 and was based in New York City. Some of his creations include the Donald Duck Pencil Sharpner, Uncle Scrooge Bank, Mickey Mouse Record Player, Glass Lamp and Disney Block Truck.

One of Konetzni's most notable accomplishments is a lunchbox called the Disney School Bus. Tt was produced from 1961 through 1973. More than nine million of them were sold, leading it to be dubbed the best-selling lunchbox of all time.

Konetzni said he started drawing at the age of 8 and never stopped. After retiring from Disney, he moved to Florida where he continued to pursue his passion for art. He worked for Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus for two years and helped develop merchandise for Disney on Ice.

Kontezni was married for 61 years and had four children. He also published a best-selling cartoon golf book. He was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1999.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W., Bradenton with a Celebration of Konetzni's life to follow at 3 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Child Protection Center, Inc., 1750 17th St., Sarasota, FL 34234 in his memory.
