COCOA, Fla. — Not much is known, but a man was successfully rescued from a storm-battered boat on the Indian River on Thursday morning.

Officials say the boat was already out in the river during Tropical Storm Nicole, as it filled the Indian River with heavy rains.

The Cocoa Fire Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office’s rescue service approached the damaged boat and were able to get the man onboard the rescue craft.

The man explained to Spectrum News 13 that his three anchors broke during Tropical Storm Nicole.

“Three anchors down and they broke loose. That’s how powerful she was,” Robert Shoefelt said of the storm.

The man was in an emergency vehicle near Dixon Boulevard and Indian River Drive in Cocoa.
