APOPKA Fla, - Apopka football is traditionally is one of the best programs in the state, competing for a state championship every fall. But this spring the flag football team, lead by Kiera Knight, is leaving their mark.

"Yeah everybody thinks football, they think about the boys, but the girls are here to do it now too," says coach Tanisha Wilson, her second year as Head Coach. "They are having an amazing season."

The team is led by Kiera Knight.  The senior is a jack of all trades by playing both defense and offense for the Blue Darters. "It just one of those things that her athleticism allows her to not only to play offense, but play defense.  I don’t believe there is anybody in the state that can really stop her," says coach Wilson.

"My sister used to play and I liked to see her play," says Knight. Her favorite part of the game is playing quarterback.  "I want to get my teammates involved on every play," says Knight.

"She makes decisions sometimes without calling the play, she will make an adjustment based on what she sees on the field.  That just shows you that she is a better quarterback and is growing, says coach Wilson.

When the play breaks down, Kiera also has the ability to make plays with her legs.  "She is a very aggressive runner.  Whenever she gets the ball is and is off to a great start, I’m saying hey I know she is going to get this touchdown and if it is not, it’s going to be big yards," says coach Wilson.  "I always come out competitive every game," says Knight.

"Kiera Knight is a joy to coach.  She is one of those players that asks question to perfect her craft, she’s coachable, she loves the game.  I couldn’t ask a better player to coach," says coach Wilson.

The team is hoping to make a deep playoff run this year, trying to win their first state title since 2004.  "Their long term goal is to make it to state, right now they are headed down that direction," says coach Wilson. "We are representing to Apopka brand that has been set forth and I think they are doing a great job honoring that Darter pride."
