ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at Wekiva High School Friday night.

The office announced the shooting on Twitter just before 10 p.m.

Officials said Wekiva High School went on a lockdown after Friday night’s basketball game following an incident involving gunfire in the parking lot. Law enforcement immediately began investigating.

One individual was injured and transported to the hospital. A Connect Orange message was sent to families at both Wekiva and Edgewater High schools Saturday morning notifying them of the incident, officials said.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and the person responsible has not been located, the office's tweet said.

On Saturday morning the principals at Wekiva and Edgewater sent out a message telling families about the incident:

“Edgewater High School families this is Principal Krieder calling to make you aware that after last night’s basketball game at Wekiva High School a lockdown was initiated following an incident involving gunfire in the parking lot near the gymnasium. One individual was injured and transported to the hospital. There were not other injuries reported. Law enforcement immediately engaged and is conducting an investigation of thee incident. I wanted to let you know and thank you for your continued support.”

On Monday, both schools will have extra law enforcement officers, according to the district.

Additionally, they say counselors will be available for anyone who wants to speak with someone.

This is not the first shooting at a sporting event involving Wekiva High School.

In November, a teen was shot and killed at a high school football playoff game between Wekiva High School and Jones High School.

Two other people were also shot in that incident.

Police say that the shooting likely stemmed from an argument between two groups.

Orange County deputies did not release any updates on Saturday when Spectrum News 13 reached out for new information.
