Linda Masters said drivers often speed through a school zone near Apopka Middle School.

Drivers are aware of the school zone on Park Avenue, but not when they turn onto Votaw Road, she said.

“You turn there and you’re like, ‘I’m off that road, yay,’ but no, you’re not out of the 20 mile an hour (school zone) yet,” she said.

Masters said part of the problem is the location the school zone sign, which is difficult for drivers to see when turning onto Votaw Road.

“I mean, you can’t even see the school zone ends sign here," she said. "It’s over the hill.”

Spectrum News brought the problem to Apopka Transportation Coordinator Pam Richmond, and she said she agrees with Masters.

Richmond said she plans to install a flashing school zone sign and change the its placement to better alert drivers.

She said she hopes to have the new sign installed before school starts in August.
