OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Sept. 11 survivor says she left New York to come to Florida and start her own nonprofit street mission.

Barbie Austria worked inside the World Trade Center in New York for 17 years. She feels lucky that she worked on the second floor of the North Tower, which gave her a chance to escape the nightmare when the planes hit the buildings.

Austria left the city and her past behind, relocated to Central Florida and founded the nonprofit, Kissimmee Poinciana Homeless Outreach

“It's like daily, I think of how much time I have left and there is an urgency for me to give back ... I felt like I was blessed, and saved and it's time for me to give back to society,” she said.
