LEESBURG, Fla. — What was first reported as a roof leak soon turned into a major mold problem at three of four Leesburg fire stations. More than $100,000 was taken from the city's general fund to pay for the abatement and removal procedure.
Here are five things to know about the major mold problem in Leesburg:
1. Officials found mold in three of the city's four fire stations.
2. Firefighters were reassigned to different living quarters during the cleanup process.
3. The city council approved over $100,000 to pay for the cleanup.
4. No fire department employees suffered from mold-related illness.
5. Mold was found in air ducts after complaints about a leaky ceiling.
