SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Employees at the Goldsboro Rescue Outreach Mission will finally be paid after missing two paychecks due to a lack of funding at the organization.

Elbert Williams has worked at the Rescue Outreach Mission in Goldsboro for four years. The last paycheck he received at work was nearly a month ago on April 27 — that’s because the mission was and is struggling financially.

Fortunately a line of credit was recently approved, and Williams along with the 16 other workers at the mission will be paid Friday in full — a recent experience he admits he wasn’t ready for.

“If you have never been through this with a job, it is kind of hard for you to be in my shoes,” said Elbert Williams, who is the facility director at the rescue mission.

Executive Director Rosalyn Thomas told Spectrum News 13 that people have started to drop off checks and more donations to the rescue outreach mission, and employees say a community with little was willing to give what they could to help the ones who help them each day.

“They actually wanted to pay my paycheck out of their pockets,” Williams said. “All the hard work we are doing, that was the community recognizing we are here for them.”

The mission’s director, who had to tell employees how tough times were, was glad to see smiles on employees faces Thursday morning when she was able to share some good news.

“You could almost feel a cloud lifted and everyone was around smiling,” Thomas said. “It is back to the way it usually is with the family, with the laughing together, and joking together.”

The Rescue Outreach Mission’s next big fundraiser is on Saturday June 1 for their Rescue 5k Run. The goal is to raise $20,000. You can find more info at www.rescueoutreachcfl.org.
