ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida continues to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ahead of the holiday to honor him.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission organized a march Sunday.

The commission is a volunteer organization that raises funds and coordinates events to promote King's message of equality, justice, freedom, peace, and harmony for all races and cultures.

"This one is the kickoff event we get all our humanitarians, which are the kids from the individual middle schools and high schools that have been nominated by their schools here. It's a community event and it shows unity and the principles that Martin Luther King Jr died for," Dyer said.

Kids played drums as the crowd marched through downtown Orlando holding signs.

The event ended with a candlelight vigil at the Orange County Regional History Center.
