University of Central Florida suspended two fraternities Wednesday for various infractions.

Sigma Chi fraternity is suspended through fall semester 2016 for disruptive conduct, alcohol related misconduct and hazing.

The investigation into the Sigma Chi fraternity was prompted by a photo that was posted on Facebook in February 2013, showing what appeared to be on person forced to drink while two others sat nearby looking sick.

Alpha Epsilon Pi is suspended through the 2014 spring semester for hazing and disruptive conduct, harmful behavior, and alcohol related misconduct.

That means both fraternities lose their university recognition. The fraternities can't use university resources or take part in school activities without permission.

“I think it’s appropriate. There’s rules to follow and those rules are in place to keep people safe. I don’t really think they should be able to come back in general if they’re gonna break those rules that are in place for the safety of students," shared UCF Senior Brianna Rosier.

Both fraternities have to take a number of actions during the suspension period. Alpha Epsilon Pi must create a number of programs on hazing, alcohol abuse and bullying. That includes bringing in speakers to talk to frat members.

Sigma Chi, meanwhile, needs to develop a comprehensive program on alcohol education.

“If they are hazing and stuff, I feel like they kinda deserve some punishment but that’s kinda serious. I feel bad for the seniors that were waiting for their time to shine," UCF Freshman Miriam Lapine.

A third fraternity, Lambda Alpha Chi, was suspended on March 4. That fraternity is appealing the suspension.

Meanwhile, Greek Life at UCF has been halted since February 2013 to address alcohol and hazing issues.

According to UCF, fraternity and sorority chapters will find out their status with the school next month.

However, the school has not said when they will lift the current ban that has halted all greek life social, new member education and initiation activities at UCF.
