Carey Baker will start his term as Lake County property appraiser sooner rather than later.

On Monday Gov. Rick Scott appointed Baker to the post he won earlier this month.

Baker is filling the vacancy left by property appraiser Ed Havill, who died in August. Havill was 71. Baker beat Havill in the primary.

Baker, a former member of the Florida House and Florida Senate, is also a member of the Army National Guard.

Baker's interim term in office starts immediately, and then he will be sworn in for his full term in January.
