TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A dog left for dead on the side of the road with several gunshot wounds is recovering, thanks to the quick actions of a Titusville police officer.

Officer Jennifer Gass found the husky named Serenity on her way to work as a school resource officer at Sculptor School on Grissom Parkway.

Gass rushed the dog to the SPCA of Brevard, where the nonprofit’s vet team worked to save the husky's life.

Vet officials said the dog had several bullet fragments in her face and some fractured teeth.

“As much trauma as she has been through, she’s cuddly, playful, loving, just your typical husky,” said Shelby Montgomery with SPCA Brevard.

Serenity will be up for adoption soon after she heals.

The SPCA is holding an adoption event Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center at 6035 Sisson Road in Titusville.
