TAMPA, Fla. — UCF won the War on I-4 against USF in a win that is bittersweet, as the team's star quarterback is badly hurt.

The Knights beat the Bulls 38 to 10 Friday in Tampa. The Bulls still lead the War on I-4 series 6-4, but this is the Knights' second straight win.

McKenzie Milton, star quarterback for  No. 9 UCF (10-0, 7-0 AAC) suffered a severe leg injury during the second quarter of the annual UCF vs. USF game in Tampa Friday.

He was carted off the field and taken to a nearby hospital. His status is currently unknown. UCF will only say that his family is with him.

Backup QB Darriel Mack Jr. led the team to a 38 to 10 win Friday in Tampa. The Bulls still lead the War on I-4 series 6-4, but this is the Knights' second straight win.

USF (7-4, 3-4 AAC) also played without its startup quarterback Blake Barnett, who has a shoulder injury, relying on two of their backup quarterbacks.

  • The 2017 game in Orlando (UCF won 49-42) produced 91 points, which was the highest combined total in a game in the series of the War on I-4.
  • This is the second time in the series one of the teams is ranked in the Top 10 of the rankings. In 2005 USF was ranked fifth in the AP poll. 
  • UCF is currently eighth in the College Football Playoff rankings.

UCF already expected to play in the AAC championship game next week against Memphis. However, the game was still important as UCF seeks better placement in the College Football Playoff Rankings.  UCF continues its undefeated streak, 24-0.

USF, meanwhile, finishes its regular season with 7 wins and 5 losses.
