Like LeBron James, Kendrick Perry too returns home.

The former Edgewater point guard is back in Orlando with a degree and a dream of making it pro.

The Youngstown State’s D1 leading scorer was asked to join the Magic’s summer league squad after impressing scouts during a couple of private workouts.

“Whether it’s Orlando, Minnesota, wherever you know [I want to play],” Perry said.  “At this point overseas as long as I get a chance to play professionally I am going to take it and run with it.”

Perry went four games without hearing his name called. He waited patiently on the sidelines alongside Romero Osby who was in his same position just last summer.

“I know in these last two games he’s going to get an opportunity to play,” Osby said. “He may not know it because he is a rookie because he doesn’t know what to expect. He doesn’t know what’s going on but I was just trying to express to him, stay locked in be ready making sure he’s paying attention to the game plan and practice because the worst thing you can do is have an opportunity and get out there and blow it.”

That opportunity came on the final day of summer league play. Perry took care of the ball, registered 8pts and three rebounds in about 14 minutes of play.

“Any NBA coach that needs a kid, that’s a really really good player but needs a character person you know—he would be that guy,” former Edgewater coach Matt Turner said.

“He’s like a Derek Fisher, you know in ten years he’ll be Derek Fisher. A quality player that can help an NBA team but just a better person and you want on your team and in your locker room.”
