ORLANDO, Fla. – When a group of movers and shakers grabs a shovel, groundbreaking becomes official.

That's what happened at ICON Park, making way for two record-breaking thrill rides.

  1. The world's tallest Slingshot and the world's tallest Drop Tower attractions are now in construction at ICON Park on International Drive.
  2. The two thrill rides are being built just to the south of Ole Red. They're expected to open December, 2021.
  3. The Drop Tower will be 430 feet tall. “We'll give [riders] a little bit of a surprise at the top,” said owner Ritchie Armstrong. “We're going to tilt them forward a little bit. When they least expect it, we're going to drop them straight back down to the ground at 75 miles per hour.”
  4. The Slingshot will stand at 300 feet tall. But here's the thing. Riders will get launched so high – and at 100 mph – that they'll reach a peak about as tall as the Drop Tower and nearby Starflyer.
  5. ICON Park President and CEO Chris Jaskiewicz says five projects are underway right now. “We have more construction going on per square foot than any entertainment attraction in the world.” In The Game is expected to debut in two months.
