LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- A holiday stage show is in town, and it doesn't have any dialogue.

  • Holiday show doesn't have any dialogue
  • 'Sleigh' tells 3 stories using physical comedy, sound effects
  • The show will be making 4 stops this month

That's right — just physical comedy and sound effects.

Sleigh covers three stories: A young couple spends their first Christmas together, tackling all of the holiday traditions with two very different expectations. Meanwhile, a pair of shopkeepers redefine "rivalry" as they coax customers away from competitor. Thirdly, three mail carriers fight the elements, a poorly addressed letter, and even each other, to make a delivery.

"We like to say it's Charlie Chaplin meets Pixar, because we have some of that classic physical comedy mixed with the heart of Pixar," Gromalot Theatre Factory producer Todd Zimmerman said.

"The trick is to make it look easy, when it's actually something very complicated," artistic director and cast member Brandon Roberts said. "A lot of this show is actually a dance. There's a lot of things that are done in a specific rhythm, specifically with the mail carriers, where we walk kind of "a la" the Three Stooges standing next to each other and walking kind of in stride with each other. But that takes a certain rhythm."

"The physical comedy aspect of it is pretty new to me," actor Matt Marberry said. "But luckily, Brandon has done a great job of doing these productions. He has a method of making sure that we know the material (and) ways for us to review it on our own without having the entire cast together."

The Gromalot Theatre Factory is familiar with fans of the Fringe festival.

"The best thing about it — not only for Fringe, but for every time we do a production — is it appeals to basically everyone," Roberts said.

"With everything that's going on in the world, this is just a good opportunity to escape what's going on in your everyday life and stress and just laugh," Marberry said.
