SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County’s mandated lawn watering restrictions begin Sunday, March 12 as Daylight Saving Time starts.
All county residents, whether their water comes from a private well or city/county supply utility, must abide by the irrigation guidelines through Nov. 5.
Here are Seminole County's guidelines:
No watering lawns between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. — If you use your irrigation system during the hottest part of the day, much of the water will evaporate before it reaches your lawn and landscape. Irrigate before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
Water only twice weekly:
Use the last digit of your street address to check which days you should water your lawn and landscape.
- Odd-numbered street addresses: Water only on Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Even-numbered street addresses: Water only on Thursdays and Sundays
- Non-residential customers: Water only on Tuesdays and Fridays
- Watering newly planted landscaping/sod, or with a handheld garden hose is allowed anytime.
Watering only twice per week conserves high-quality groundwater, according to the county, and increased groundwater withdrawals could affect water quality or hurt lakes, springs, and wetlands
The St. John's Water Management District encourages water restrictions. Other cities and counties may have ordinances to assist with enforcing their water restrictions.
