HONOLULU — It’s probably safe to say Bill Maher — acclaimed stand-up comedian, author and host of HBO’s long-running “Real Time with Bill Maher” — likes Hawaii because he’ll be coming back for the 11th time to close out 2022 and ring in 2023 with shows on Maui and Oahu, “Bill Maher New Year’s Eve 11th Anniversary with Jeff Ross and Wendy Liebman.”

Since hitting the comedy scene in 1979, Maher has been known for his biting and intelligent commentary on American and international political and social events. Make no mistake, he’s had an impact on America’s culture and social consciousness throughout his career.

HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” is now in its 20th season. Combined with his hosting duties on “Politically Incorrect” (Comedy Central, ABC, 1993-2002), the two shows have garnered Maher 41 Emmy nominations. He won his first Emmy in 2014 as executive producer for the HBO series, “Vice.”

Besides his television program and specials that have featured visitors ranging from former President Barack Obama to Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Michael Moore to Howard Stern, Maher has written five bestselling books.

Maher’s recent endeavor is a new podcast, “Club Random with Bill Maher,” recorded at a bar on Maher’s property in Los Angeles, called Club Random. Each hour-long show entails a one-on-one interview with a wide range of eclectic guests in a free-flowing conversation about everything except politics.

As a side note, ticket sales activity for the Oahu show will be actively monitored during the presale to ensure the process is handled fairly for Hawaii residents. If any out-of-state purchases slip through the platform, those tickets will be canceled and returned to the inventory for Hawaii residents to purchase first.
