The roller coaster attraction, currently under construction in the park’s Tomorrowland, will open to the public in Spring 2023, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed Sunday. TRON Lightcycle Run, first announced for Disney World at D23 Expo 2017, will be similar to the TRON attraction that opened at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016.
Riders will board a train of two-wheeled vehicles known as Lightcycles for a race through the digital frontier.

The attraction has been under construction since 2018, and it was originally slated to open in time for Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration, which began on Oct. 1 of last year.Although the TRON has dealt with a number of construction delays, including those brought on by the pandemic, work has ramped up in recent months. In June, Imagineers began testing and programming lighting effects for the attraction’s outside canopy. The ride vehicles have also been undergoing test runs, and human riders have been added to the mix in the last few weeks.

TRON will be the latest coaster to open at Disney World. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, an indoor coaster based on Marvel’s popular Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, debuted at EPCOT in May.

With the opening timeline revealed, TRON could to debut during Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration, which is scheduled to wrap March 31, 2023.
