ORLANDO, Fla. – Floridians for and against abortion are making their voices heard in the days since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

John Barros, an Evangelist, sits outside the Orlando Women’s Center five days a week, hoping to convince women not to have an abortion.

“We just want to bring the gospel and hope to people that don’t have it,” he said.

Barros is calling for Florida to ban abortions outright, with no exceptions.

“I want to see abortion outlawed and criminalized,” he said. “It needs to be abolished. These are people that are being killed every day.”

Barros believes life begins at the moment of conception.

Tuwanan Ware of Orlando does not.

“To have just a guy to say, ‘Hey, this is what you’re going to do with your body,’ I just think is very intrusive and very invasive, and I don’t think that should be the case,” she said.

Ware feels women should have the right to choose. She says some of her friends had abortions and it was the best decision for them at the time.

“It takes a lot to come to that decision and I don’t believe that a lot of women just come haphazardly at this decision to have an abortion,” she said.

Barros, in his 19 years of being a so-called sidewalk counselor, said of all the women he has convinced not to have an abortion never regretted their decision to keep their child.

“I’ve never had one tell me that they wish they would’ve killed their baby and I’ve never had one tell me that God hadn’t taken care of everything they need.”

On Friday, State Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-District 32) called for a special session to pass stricter anti-abortion laws in Florida.
