Orlando Police say a 10-year-old girl pulled the trigger in a shooting late Monday night on Mercy Drive.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says authorities are still following leads on Wednesday morning’s shooting on North Powers Drive, which claimed the life of 19-year-old Raniyah A’Shanti Gandy.

Eddie Wilson, the youth director for local nonprofit Stop the Violence and Embrace, has made it his mission to keep weapons from young people, so hearing about this week’s violence was upsetting.

“It’s a sad story, but unfortunately that’s what we see and that’s what’s going on,” he said.

Stop the Violence and Embrace focuses on mentoring at-risk kids.

The nonprofit is joining other groups to host a Youth Crime Prevention Forum on June 14 at 5 p.m. at the Holden Heights Community Center in Orlando. Wilson hopes to see community leaders there, saying everyone needs to be engaged and keep the conversation going so they can address this problem.
