Monica Broussard says it’s difficult to turn left off of US-441 north and onto Bradshaw Road without a dedicated left turn signal at the traffic light.

“You have to play Russian roulette at the light in order to turn," said Broussard.

Broussard realized the problem recently because she and her family are moving into a new home close by.

“I’m very excited, can’t wait to move in,” she said.

Her only concern is the left turn onto Bradshaw Road.

Traffic can be heavy traveling southbound on US-441, making it challenging to find an opening to turn left.

"You got to hit it to make that turn," she told us.

Broussard would like a left turn arrow.

We found out that’s actually already in the works.

“While there is a resurfacing project that will soon start construction in this area, (FDOT) has partnered with the City of Apopka to expedite the construction of a traffic signal mast arm, which would allow for a left turn signal arrow that would provide motorists with a dedicated left turn phase onto southbound Bradshaw Road,” said FDOT Public Information Director Jessica Ottaviano.

“Although FDOT could not fund the project, they agreed to let the City (of Apopka) fund the design, permitting and reconstruction the signal with mast arms and protected left turn lanes to northbound and southbound Bradshaw Road from US 441,” said Apopka Transportation Coordinator Pam Richmond.

The signal should be installed by the end of the year.

That’ll probably happen after Broussard and her family move into the neighborhood, but she couldn’t be happier.

“Jerry, thank you so much for this awesome news,” Broussard texted me after I told her about the FDOT/Apopka project. “I appreciate your time bringing this situation to the attention of FDOT and the City of Apopka.”
