OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – This month Meals on Wheels America is honoring the 50th anniversary of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program – the law that helps support programs like Meals on Wheels.

Leaders with the local chapter in Osceola County said they have concerns over the hiking gas prices. Volunteers usually pick up meals at the Council and deliver them to senior homes.

Wilda Belisle in charge of nutrition said she’s concerned about volunteers possibly dropping-out due to the price of gas going up.

“They’re spending their money on gas and more things just to make these clients happy everyday. They really mean the world to us,” Belisle said.

Gas cards are being collected to help volunteers.

Also, the annual March for Meals 5K is on Saturday at the Kissimmee Lakefront Park.
