  • Governor made his remarks during a stop in West Palm Beach

The tests will be sent to nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

He spoke about the federal government's plan to send out at-home tests nationwide.

"That has not materialized, so we have tried to look and say, 'where can we make an impact'," DeSantis said. "We know the tests are scarce, but we were able to get some, and how would we then be able to use them if we had at home tests.

"What we're going to start by doing is sending them out to nursing homes and long-term care facilities and then beyond that, focus on senior-heavy communities."

The governor said he will monitor the demand for tests and look at other places and communities that need them. He added that the state has asked for more monoclonal antibody treatments, but the state is still waiting for doses.
