Florida just set a grim new record for COVID-19 deaths reported in a single week.

According to data released by the Florida Department of Health, another 2,448 people in the state died from COVID-19 over the course of seven days.

That's the highest weekly number reported since the beginning of the pandemic, equating to almost 350 deaths per day and bringing the total number of COVID deaths in Florida to 48,772.

The number of cases, however, is trending downward, with 100,012 cases reported for the week.

On September 10, there were 17,854 new cases.
