ORLANDO, Fla. — Five more suspects appeared before federal judges Thursday in Florida in connection with the U.S. Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6.

The arrests bring to at least 48 the number of people arrested in Florida in connection with the siege. At least 19 of those arrests have taken place in Central Florida, with at least 10 in Tampa Bay.

The Justice Department announced that James Vernell Cusick Jr., who it identified as the founder and pastor of a church in Melbourne, and son Casey Cusick made their initial court appearances Thursday in Orlando.

Both were charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Jamie and Jennifer Buteau of Ocala also were apprehended. In a criminal complaint, Jamie Buteau, 48, faces eight charges and is accused of throwing a chair at a U.S. Capitol police officer during the riot.

Also Thursday, authorities arrested David John Lesperance of Indian Harbor Beach in Brevard County, according to the U.S. Justice Department. Lesperance faces charges of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building; and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to the Justice Department. He also made his initial court appearance on Thursday.
