BUNNELL, Fla. — Flagler County commissioners have decided to postpone a discussion scheduled for Monday night's meeting that could have determined whether a longtime equine therapy ranch would have been forced to move because of a complaint.

What You Need To Know

Commissioners were set to take up a discussion over a permit for the nonprofit Whispering Meadows Ranch, which has worked with veterans and disabled children for more than a dozen years.

But the ranch, run behind a home on John Anderson Highway, was recently told it had to apply for a special use permit after the county received a complaint from at least one neighbor who feared the ranch would expand and change their residential neighborhood.

County commissioners would have discussed and decided Monday on that permit.

But “we worked with all parties over the weekend, and we believe we are close to a solution that will be in the best interest of our community and allow them to continue services while protecting the interest of surrounding property owners,” County Administrator Jerry Cameron said in a news release.

The county commission meeting starts at 5 p.m. Monday, and the Whispering Meadows Ranch permit agenda item won't be officially postponed until then. The news release didn't say when or if they would take up the issue again.

However, “we feel we are very close to bringing both sides together for a solution,” Cameron said.
