Six years ago, Eddie Gelles began creating his annual American flag display on the beach at 4th Street South.

The flag is made from forty bags of mulch, which volunteers like his real estate partner Holly Davis helped him haul to the sand.

“I really love to support our country, so this year when Eddie asked for help I was right on board with him,” Davis said.

This year's theme is the sun coming out of the dunes, with the rays being the stripes.

“I'm not an artist by trade, so I really just go with my inspiration,” Gelles said.

Gelles' own inspiration is his father, a Korean War veteran, who he says is the most patriotic person he's ever known.

He says he will create the flag each year until he isn't able to physically do it anymore.
