NATIONWIDE – Landry's, the parent company of restaurant brands like Joe's Crab Shack, has issued a warning to customers after a data breach may have compromised customers' credit card information.

  • Landry's warns of potential credit card breach
  • Affects cards used at restaurants between March 13 and Oct. 17, 2019
  • Restaurants include Rainforest Cafe, Joe's Crab Shack, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

The warning comes after the Texas-based company said it detected malware on the network that supports the payment processing systems for its restaurants. Point-of-sale terminals that used encryption technology were not affected. However, the breach appears to have happened when waiters mistakenly swiped cards on devices used to enter kitchen and bar orders, which did not have the same protection, Landry's said in the notice.

Landry's said breach likely affected cards used at restaurants between March 13 and October 17, 2019. Access may have happened as early as January 18, 2019 at a small number of locations, Landry's added.

Landry's Select Clubs rewards cards were not impacted by the breach, the company said.

Restaurants potentially involved in the breach include Rainforest Café, T-Rex Café, Yak & Yeti Restaurant, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Mitchell's Fish Market and Landry's Seafood House. For a full list of Landry's-owned restaurants, click here.

Landry's is urging customers to closely monitor their credit card statements. Anyone with questions should called 833-991-1538 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
