Planning to fly? The federal REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005, but it will have a big impact on residents nationwide by October 2020.

Nearly 1.5 million Floridians, including 90,000 Orange County residents, will need to update their license or ID within the year in order to board a domestic flight, according to Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph.

"Unless you can produce either a REAL ID compliant drivers license, or another document whether a passport or military ID that's accepted by the federal government, you will not be able to go through security and will be turned away," explained GOAA Director of Affairs Luis Olivero.

Not sure if you have a REAL ID? Check your driver’s license or state ID card for a gold star in the upper right-hand corner. If it’s there, that means you’re Real ID compliant and no further action is required until your license is up for renewal.
