MELBOURNE, Fla. — Brevard Zoo is awarding its conservation partner Florida Wildlife Hospital & Sanctuary a $5,000 grant, the organization announced Thursday.

  • Florida Wildlife Hospital receives $5,000 grant from Brevard Zoo
  • The two organizations have worked closely for years
  • Funding for the grant comes from zoo admission, membership sales

The grant will be awarded every year to the Florida Wildlife Hospital & Sanctuary "in perpetuity," the zoo said in a press release.

The wildlife hospital admits more than 5,000 animals per year, including otters, bobcats, deer, owls, herons, songbirds, turtles, and tortoises, making it the only entity of its kind in Brevard County, according to the zoo.

The nonprofit organizations have worked side-by-side from many years, officials said.

The Brevard Zoo has also awarded more than $35,000 to the Florida Wildlife Hospital & Sanctuary since 2006.

Zoo officials said the funding for the $5,000 grant comes from admission to the Brevard Zoo, along with membership sales.
