The incident happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The van’s owner’s daughter, Stephanie Gonzalez, said her father Nacho Gonzalez uses the van to deliver meals to underprivileged children and to help transport them to school as part of his organization “Mission Compassion.”

Gonzalez said her father was at a gas station near Tuskawilla Road in Winter Springs when the suspect approached him, asking for money. Nacho said he didn’t have any cash.

Before Nacho could stop him, Stephanie said the suspect jumped in the van and drove off.

Shortly after, the suspect crashed the van at Tuskawilla Road and Avery Lane and ran away.

After an intensive manhunt, which included a helicopter, authorities took the suspect into custody. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect.

Stephanie Gonzalez has set up a GoFundMe page to hopefully get a new van. Spectrum News 13 is not affiliated with the page.
