MELBOURNE, Fla. — A high speed motorcycle chase in Brevard County through the beachside streets ended with an attack on a police dog and the motorcyclist ultimately in cuffs.

  • Police pursue Phillip Spurlock, 23, on high-speed chase
  • Officers responded to a shooting on Buick Ave., Spurlock fled soon after
  • Taken into custody after he was taken down on foot, police say

Melbourne Police responded to a call about a person shooting at a Buick Avenue home late Wednesday night.

Soon after, 23-year-old Philip Spurlock, who is accused of shooting at the home, allegedly sped away on a motorcycle, hitting speeds of nearly 100 mph and riding on the wrong side of the road at times.

The Brevard Sheriff helicopter flew overhead, and eventually Spurlock stopped at house on Lillian Drive and took off on foot.

He was found minutes later, hiding behind an air conditioning unit. That's where police say he grabbed a K-9 around the neck before officers took him down.

Spurlock is being held without bond. He is charged with shooting at a building (aggravated assault and vandalism), resisting officer arrest, and causing harm to a police animal.
