MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A pedestrian walking along US-441 in Marion County was struck and killed Saturday night by a vehicle.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the 59-year-old pedestrian was walking next to his bicycle on the southbound inside lane of US-441.

A man driving a Mazda 3 was approached the pedestrian but allegedly did not notice him on the roadway until the left front side of the vehicle hit the pedestrian.

Troopers say as a result, the pedestrian was thrown into the grass median, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver in the Mazda 3 reportedly veered off the road and into the grass shoulder of US-441, coming to a stop.
