ORLANDO, Fla — Nearly 50 million people are under some form of a winter storm watch, warning or advisory across the United States.

  • Over a foot of snow in many places up north
  • At least 1500 flight cancellations throughout the U.S.
  • Dozens of cancellations or delays throughout Florida

A storm system stretches from Missouri to Maine and is dumping over a foot of snow in many places.

Rebekah Andrews may be in sunny, if slightly windy, Orlando, but she's trying to get to Albany, New York, and right now that's tough.

"We're a party of 10, so we just booked a couple of rooms here in the airport, just in case," Andrews said. "Part of my family is trying to talk to Southwest to see if we can get on a flight later today because we have school that starts on Tuesday."

The situation is the same for hundreds, if not thousands of people across Florida as flights to destinations like Chicago, New Jersey Boston and New York have been canceled or delayed, leaving passengers stuck for hours.

As of 1:30 p.m., over 40 flights currently show up as canceled at Orlando International Airport through 10 p.m., with dozens more delayed.

At Tampa International Airport, 40 flights were also canceled as of 11:30 a.m., with more delayed.

Dozens of cancellations and delays are also popping up at Miami International Airport, Jacksonville International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International.

According to flight tracking site FlightAware, there have been 1,591 cancellations today within, into or out of the United States. There have been 1,849 delays.
