NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — New Smyrna Beach High School was put on a “code red” lockdown Thursday after a student was found with an airsoft gun, according to Volusia County school officials.

A student reported to a New Smyrna Beach High staff member they saw another student had a gun, which ultimately turned out to be an airsoft gun, also classified as a toy weapon.  

The school resource deputy at the high school discovered the student putting the airsoft gun in a trash can.

According to a Volusia County Schools spokesperson, the SRO stopped the student, and the airsoft gun was recovered.

No one was injured during the incident, and the code red has since been lifted.
