CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Dogs have been known to protect and serve, much like their police counterparts.

  • The TSA says they want to phase out pointy-eared dogs from airport checkpoints.
  • They said it is because they scare children.
  • A local vet says children may confuse floppy-eared dogs for pets.

But now, TSA says they want to phase out pointy ear dogs from their airport checkpoints, because they claim they scare children.

TSA has announced that they will have more floppy ear dogs at security checkpoints at the airport. But, a local veterinarian is concerned, and think that floppy-eared dogs may be confused for pets.

"German Shepherds are the ones they are focusing on, and kids relate them to police dogs and they are policing the airport. So I think they should be there," said Dr. Rich Panuska of Friendship Animal Hospital in Pineville.

The Washington Examiner did an interview with the TSA administrator, who told them they are phasing out the pointy-eared dogs.
