A new solar farm will soon be built on Walt Disney World property.

The Disney-controlled Reedy Creek Improvement District has entered into an agreement with Miami-based Origis Energy.

The company will build a 50 MW solar farm on 270 acres west of Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.

The project calls for 518,000 solar panel modules that will connect to Reedy Creek’s power distribution system.

Once completed, the solar farm will generate 120,000 megawatt hours of power each year to Reedy Creek and, eventually, the resort.

A Power Purchase Agreement between Reedy Creek and Origis was announced in January.

“We’re excited to begin work on a new solar facility as part of our ongoing responsibility to oversee land use and environment protections within the district,” said John Classe, Reedy Creek district administrator, in a statement last month. “This project will significantly enhance our renewable energy abilities and create new environmental opportunities in the future.”

The new solar farm will be larger than the 22-acre “Hidden Mickey” solar farm near Epcot. That facility is operated by Duke Energy and is made up of 48,000 solar panels.

The project is expected to create up to 300 jobs during construction, which is expected to begin late spring.
