GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Lubee Bat Conservancy in Gainesville will challenge your perception of bats large and small.

Founded in the late 1980s, the conservancy now houses over 200 rescued bats at their research and conservation headquarters.

A variety of different species reside at the conservancy, including the fruit bat, one of the largest bats in the world. Their wing span can get up to 5-to-6 feet in length.

Other species include the Indian Flying Fox, the Rodrigues Fruit Bat, and the Malayan Flying Fox.

The bat conservancy also offers chances to volunteer in order to learn even more about these winged creatures, check it out here,
