MELBOURNE, Fla. — A small rat snake who was in quite the predicament in October is now back in the wild.

  • Snake found in Brevard with ping pong ball in stomach
  • The 2-foot snake released on Fla. Wildlife Hospital grounds
  • Vets think the ball was in the snake's stomach for more than 1 month

The slithering creature swallowed a ping pong ball, and the sporting good was wedged inside the snake's stomach.

The 2-foot long snake was found in a yard October 11 and brought to Young's Animal Hospital in Titusville by Wild Florida Rescue.

Veterinarians were able to remove the ball after a quick 20-minute surgery to help the emaciated reptile.

Tuesday, the snake was released on the grounds of Melbourne's Florida Wildlife Hospital.

“I know no one threw out that ping pong ball thinking a snake would eat it, but we impacted that animal, and it's only reasonable we could fix it,” said Dr. Angela Bockelman with the Young's Animal Hospital.
