ORLANDO, Fla. — An Osceola County school bus with almost a dozen students on board crashed into the back of a car in the Four Corners area on Monday morning, sending two people to a hospital.

  • Osceola school bus carrying 11 children hits back of car
  • 1 child, 1 rider in car taken to hospital with minor injuries
  • Both driver of bus and car received tickets, troopers say

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway near Vista Del Largo Boulevard, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

Troopers said the school bus, driven by 63-year-old James Brayman of Kissimmee, was behind a stationary 2008 Volkswagen four-door on U.S. 192 when it failed to stop in time, hitting the back of the car that had stopped for traffic.

A rider in the bus, which was transporting 11 children, as well as a passenger in the car were sent to a hospital for minor injuries, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Brayman and Volkswagen driver Simeon Mariano, 37, also of Kissimmee, were both wearing seat belts and not hurt, troopers said. But both were ticketed, Brayman for careless driving and Mariano for driving without a license.

Troopers didn't identify the injured student or Volkswagen passenger.

Another school bus came to collect the other students.
