KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- A Kissimmee teen who had been missing for months has been found safe, according to police.

Maria Nunez Quiroz, 17, has been reunited with her family, Kissimmee Police announced Saturday.

According to police, Quiroz reached out to law enforcement and told them she had left home on her own.

"Detectives now know Quiroz was never in any danger and left home onw her own," police wrote in a Twitter post. 

Investigators had been looking for Quiroz for months after she was reported missing in August.
