KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Angels in Osceola County are looking out for certain families through the holidays.

Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program in Kissimmee is helping families who can't afford gifts on their child's Christmas list.

“This is hugely needed in our community. I am so excited Salvation Army is here,” said Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry.

For Kelly Gil, one of the recipients, this is an emotional time, as most of her family is back home in Venezuela. Gil said she moved here after being kidnapped for speaking out against her homeland’s government.

But this season, she is smiling to see Salvation Army’s Osceola Service Center give out toys to nearly 200 kids.

Osceola recently started their program so they’re in need of helping hands.

“In Orlando we have more than 2,000 volunteers,” said Alves Gonzalez with the Osceola Service Center Director for the Salvation Army. “I am looking for volunteers in Osceola; since our office is new, we don’t have volunteers to cover all the events in the year”

Gil is grateful she now has a bag full of gifts for her little ones Samantha and Ethan to wake up to on Christmas morning.
