ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Fire Department received an unusual call for help late Wednesday night.

  • OFD saves woman stuck in car on railroad tracks downtown
  • Stephanie Pile, 21, drove her car down railroad tracks, got stuck
  • Pile charged with DUI, resisting arrest

Just feet away from the fire department on Pine Street and Central Boulevard, people started banging on the station doors for help — a woman and car had come to a stop on the tracks outside of Firehouse 1.

Twenty-one-year-old Stephanie Pile drove her car down railroad tracks and got stuck.

When nearby witnesses saw the car stuck, they ran to Fire Station One and started banging on the doors and windows for help.

“The engine one PA got on the call and did an all-call, and within 20 seconds we had all guys from the big house about 15 on their tracks," said Orlando Fire Department Engineer Bassel Ibrahim. "We just were trying to get this lady out of the vehicle and the car unstuck."

Not only was there a need to get Stephanie and her car off the tracks, but there was also added pressure to the madness because a freight train was quickly approaching.

“We had to get on the radio and call CSX and Sunrail," Ibrahim explained. "The train was coming so it was a little chaotic at first, but everything went well.”

Fire rescuers were calm during the whole episode and were able to push Stephanie and her car to safety.

Stephanie Pile was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, having an above normal blood alcohol level, and resisting arrest.
