SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators say a newly released photo could help identify the victim of a45-year-old murder mystery in Seminole County.

  • Investigators have facial approximation of 1973 murder victim
  • They say the victim is believed to be between ages 14-18
  • Her body was found in Altamonte Springs in 1973

The unsolved murder dates back to 1973 at Lake Lotus. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office released a picture of what the murder victim may have looked like, along with other information that could possibly help identify the victim.

Investigators say the victim is believed to be between the ages of 14 and 18 when her body was found 45 years ago in Seminole County.

Her body discovered badly decomposed near the northeast part of Lake Lotus in Altamonte Springs in a wooded area between the Lake and Forest City Road.

Investigators are now using isotopic testing to help figure out who she is.

“(We) have our best picture yet of what we think this girl looks like. The testing is able to reveal what region based on a series of markers that this victim is from, and we believe that she is from the Pacific Northwest,” said Seminole County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Bob Kealing.

Detectives said a ring was also found near the scene.

“(It was a) very distinct June birthstone ring, Alexandrite ring, that was found near the skeletal remains back in August of 1973,” Kealing said.

The Sheriff’s Office said they’re not giving up on finding out her identity.

“As long as we get it out in the right avenues, somebody’s got (to) recognize her. Even though it’s as far back as 1973, somebody has to be missing her,” said investigator Jennifer Spears.
