ORLANDO, Fla. — Investigators desperate for clues are offering a $5,000 reward for information about the death of a man found shot in the back after a car crash early Thursday.

  • Michael Campbell taken to ORMC, where he was pronounced dead
  • Investigators have few leads, offer $5,000 reward for information

Orange County investigators say 57-year-old Michael Eugene Campbell was involved in a crash in downtown Orlando on 20th Street, near Kaley and South Paramore avenues.

He was found with gunshot wound in his back and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Shell casings were recovered blocks away on the same street. Investigators think that's where the incident began, and then Campbell drove and crashed his vehicle.

Campbell's wife, Deborah, and the people in the community say they want answers. Deborah said she and Michael had been married for a little over a decade. She said her husband did not support the use of assault rifles and spoke out about it often on social media.

Christopher Conard lives in a home close to where Campbell's body was found.

"I couldn't believe it happened right there," Conard said. "I had been wake, playing my video games, nothing out of the ordinary, and then detectives come banging on my door."

Deborah now is asking the public to come forward with information in her husband's homicide.

"Please come forward. If you know anything, if you think you can help at all, please come forward and let the police know," Deborah Campbell said.

If you have information about the death of Campbell, you could be eligible for the reward. Contact Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS or Orange County Sheriff's investigators at 407-836-4357.
