TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- Students at Astronaut High School who need food, school supplies or clothing now have a place to get these items -- all for free.

  • Free student marketplace opens at Astronaut High School
  • Facility provides free personal items, food for students
  • Items come from Brevard Schools, other county charities

A new student marketplace opened last week and is open three afternoons a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Students are encourage to stop by for free items and food -- from as small as a snack to as large as groceries -- to take home and provide for their families. Other items available include school supplies, personal items like shampoo and clothing.

Prepackaged boxes are available to help out entire families.

"We don't realize how many students are in need at our school. A lot of times, we can be oblivious to it," said Emma Milbert, the school's student body president. "We discussed (that) we wanted to outreach not just the school, but also the community, so we felt like this was a really good opportunity."

Brevard County Schools and charitable organizations in the county are providing the space and goods for the students.

This is a first type of market open to students in Brevard County.
