LAKE COUNTY, Fla.-- A skate park is being built in Lake County and is set to open in the next few months.

  • Skate park to open in Lake County
  • Park estimated to cost $500,000, said city officials
  • Skate park to be completed this Fall

Preparation work is being done at Sunset Island Park on Ward Avenue in Eustis.

Team Pain Skate Parks in Winter Springs was chosen to create the skate park that will be about 10,000 square feet and will feature a bowl for all skill  levels between 4 and 6 foot deep, ledges, stairs, handrails, grinding rails, and ramps.

"In every neighborhood there's always kids that ride bikes and skateboard and there's a need for it a lot more than people really understand," said Tim Payne, Owner of Team Pain Skate Parks.

"We had 65 people show up to the public input meeting and they were all riders between the age of 18 and 24."

The city of Eustis is planning on hosting a Lake County Skateboard Invitation and Competition once the skate park is completed, which is sometime in September or October.

City officials say the skate park will cost $500,000. They say in 2016, they received a $100,000 grant from Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP).

The balance is funded by the city, including the recreation impact fee funds.

Team Pain said they also created one in St. Pete.
