  • Volusia Beach Safety says they're moon jellyfish

On Sunday, more than 500 people were treated for jellyfish stings, according to Volusia Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. Another 107 were treated for jellyfish stings Saturday. Beach Safety said they are moon jellyfish.

Even though a jellyfish may appear dead, they can still harm you.

If you're stung, find a lifeguard truck or go a staffed tower. A lifeguard can rinse the area with vinegar, which is a common treatment. Don't rub the area, which could make it worse.

Most jellyfish stings are not life-threatening.

Beach Safety has flown purple and yellow flags the past few days, which warn beachgoers of dangerous marine life and rough surf.
